First exhibition1998 - 2010
The Ecclesiastical Museum of Lindos opened its gates to the public in February 1998, with the aim to preserve and highlight the exquisite relics of the collection of the Parish of Lindos. The museum was housed in the northern annex of the holy church of the Dormition of the Virgin, which was restored by the 4th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities for this purpose. The Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities also curated the exhibition and promotion of relics, under the care of the late archaeologist Thodoris Archontopoulos.
Since the Collection of Relics from the Parish of Dormition of Lindos was incorporated in the early 21st century in the Network of Christian Museums and Visitable Monuments of the Holy Diocese of Rhodes (currently under development) administered by the Communications and Cultural Foundation (CCF) of the Holy Diocese of Rhodes, AENAON Cultural Workshop was commissioned in 2010 with the writing of a museological study for the re-exhibition of the collection.
The aim of the study was to create a modern museum with an anthropocentric orientation, which would physically and conceptually connect the church with the exhibition space, and would present the religious culture of the maritime village of Lindos through a vibrant exhibition scenario. The theme of the exhibition was designed to become a subdivision of the main theme of the Network, as its museological scenario unfolded incrementally on all the nodes comprising the network. The re-exhibition study was completed in 2011 with the substantial assistance of the 4th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, and was subsequently approved by the competent authorities of the Ministry of Culture.
Re-exhibition
The implementation of re-exhibition work was performed through funding awarded by the local community initiative program Leader + to the CCF of the Holy Diocese of Rhodes. Implementation work began in March 2013, and was executed under the supervision of the AENAON Cultural Workshop, which also implemented a large portion of the work.
The New Exhibition of Relics from the Parish of Dormition of Lindos opened its gates to the public in the spring of 2015.
