The captain-houses of Lindos

In the picturesque narrow streets of Lindos, we can observe certain stone houses, which stand out for their beauty. These house were built with loving care by the wealthy captains of Lindos, from the 16th to 18th centuries. Known as captain-houses (in Greek kapetanospita), these majestic buildings are unique for their particular architecture, which is found only here and constitutes a synthesis of insular, Byzantine, Frankish and Arabic elements. Some of the most representative captain-houses are the Papakonstantis house (1626), the Kyriakos Koliodos house, the Lefteris Makris house (1700), the Krikis house (1700), the Georgiou house, the Marietta Markoulitsa house (1700) and the Ioannidis house.
